About Me

My photo
Hi, my name is Amy I have lived in Louisiana my entire life and have been in the cosmetology business for over 20 years. I have always had a love for fashion, makeup, hair and traveling which in a way is what led to me starting this blog. I've also always had a love for writing and reading. I have a great husband and 2 children in college and 1 just starting high school. 1 son and 2 daughters. My dad, who I was very close to, passed away one year ago this month and I've sort of been at a loss for a year so my son has trying to get me to start this! He says nothing suits me better than writing about fashion and girl stuff all day! LOL So, here we go! My husband is John and we've been married 24 years, my oldest is my son, Clay, he is 20 and a senior at Louisiana Tech University studying Finance. My oldest daughter is Gracie Claire and she is starting Louisiana Tech this fall and plans to major in marketing also (they are following in their Dad's footsteps) and my youngest daughter is Camille, she will begin her freshman year of high school this fall. Keto Breakfast Casserole

Every Sunday my oldest daughter, who is in college at Louisiana Tech, meal preps for the week, so this week I decided to join her. We both decided to go on the keto plan since so many people have been having such great results from it. I want to share this great breakfast casserole with you, because if all of the food is this good I wont mind being on this plan at all.

Ingredients:

16 oz ground sausage
1 small onion
1 small green pepper
12 oz spinach
12 TBS heavy cream
12 eggs
1 tsp onion powder, garlic powder, salt, pepper
8 oz cheddar cheese

Instructions:

1. Cook the spinach in microwave
2. Cook ground sausage in skillet until brown & put in bowl
3. Thinly slice onion and pepper and cook in same skillet as sausage, then place in bowl
4. When spinach has finished cooking add to sausage
5. Whisk together eggs, heavy cream and spices
6. Add cheese to the sausage mixture then mix in the egg mixture
Transfer to a greased casserole dish and cook at 350 for 50 minutes

This makes a lot and keeps really well in the refrigerator (once it has cooled). We use the glad throw away containers and divide by days. With this casserole my daughter and I each had 5 days. Its great to just take out of the refrigerator and heat in the microwave for 2 minutes then enjoy!

Hi! I've been MIA for a couple of months but I am so ready to get back! We have been very busy lately, we bought a new house and moved into town after over 20 years in our other house! That was definitely a challenge, and I do not ever care to do it again! I'll post pictures and write all about it later this month!! I'm getting my oldest two off to college today and my youngest ready to return to school, we all hate for the holidays to end.  My son just returned from Virginia where he attended a conference for his fraternity (he is their Commander this year) and my oldest daughter had outpatient surgery on Thursday, so it has been very busy around here.  XOXO
Sorry I've been absent for so long! I'll have a new post tonight about everything that has been going on, so much has happened in such a short time it still has my head spinning!! Good things though!

Summer Makeup

Baked Blush

Today, I thought I'd just put together some of the products I've tried this summer that have lasted while being out in this very hot Louisiana weather!  We have very hot and humid days, not only that but as unlady like as it is I sweat like it's hotter than blue blazes (which it is)! These are some of the products that I've worn so far this summer that have stayed on and not melted off my face while being outside. I really like all of these products so I tend to switch up what I wear, but these are all full coverage foundations since I have really bad melasma on my face in places and it's really hard to cover.  So far, for primers I've only found two that I really like, YSL is really good and hides any pores that are big enough to show and benefit PORE fessional has worked good for me too.  My pores tend to show on my chin the most and sometimes I notice them on my nose.  I'd love to know of any great ones that I might need to try.

Foundations and powders I really like are, Kat Von d lock it with Kat Von d setting powder.  I've heard people say this foundation is hard to use if you have dry skin, I have dry skin and love it but I think the trick to it is making sure you let your moisturizer and primer dry really good before you apply the foundation.  Next, is Marc Jacobs Re(marc)able foundation and I usually set this with the Laura Mercier setting powder or the Cover FX pressed mineral foundation with a powder brush.  I've also been using Estee Lauder Double Wear foundation with the Laura Mercier setting powder or the Cover FX pressed mineral foundation with a powder brush.  The Cover FX pressed mineral foundation is a buildable foundation that can be put on sheer (with a powder brush) or medium to full using the sponge it comes with, so it can be used alone.

Concealers (this one is harder for me because I'm covering really dark spots on my face, my chin is really bad!) under my eyes I always use It cosmetics bye bye under eye.  The formula is really thick but it brightens under my eyes and helps hide fine lines and signs of fatigue (sometimes! haha) I use Laura Mercier secret brightening powder to set the under eye concealer, I like it because it brightens and it doesn't settle into fine lines.  Kat Von d lock it concealer is great for covering any discoloring or anything! I've also been using Estee Lauder double wear water proof concealer a lot this summer and I've really liked it.  It cosmetics CC cream is really good and I wish I could use it as a foundation but it doesn't cover my melasma well enough, so sometimes I do use it as a concealer with the Marc Jacobs foundation.

The eyeshadow primer I have been using is Urban Decay original formula but next I want to try their anti aging formula.  My eyeshadow stays in place all day with no creasing or fading. For the last several months I have been using the smash box eyeshadow pallet with matte colors, the formula is very smooth and goes  on so easy. I've always been really picky about my eyeliner, some work for me and some don't!  Unfortunately, I'm not a big fan of liquid eyeliner (I do plan to try it again soon) but right now Makeup Forever's waterproof eye pencil is what I'm using and really liking. I started using Bobbi Brown eye opening mascara a few months ago and it's become a fast favorite of mine!

I have a drawer full of blush but the one I have found that I think is great is only around $10 and is made by Milani Cosmetics it's sold at CVS and Walgreen's, the colors are beautiful and very pigmented my favorite colors are Dolce Pink and Luminoso.

Hourglass makes the absolute best bronzer I've used it seems to have just the right amount of pigmentation and glow in it.

Becca highlighter has been a staple in my house since my 14 year old daughter discovered Jaclyn Hill and I have to admit I haven't found another one that can top it yet!

Let me know some of your favorite makeup brands and must haves for summer!

NEW YORK

My favorite City! Growing up in a small town in the south not many of my family members (the men) have been able to understand why I love New York so much!  Honestly though, what's not to love?  New York has everything (and yes, I do understand the crowds of people probably bother some).

My mom, sister-in-law, and I started making this trip once a year about 13 years ago, over the years we have had friends come along and our daughters also; this year my oldest daughter and my niece joined us, both of them just graduated high school last month and are getting ready for their big move to college!

any of you know your mafia history
you know what happened here on

5th Avenue
One of the things I find so fascinating about New York City is the fact that just walking from one area to the next is like entering an entirely new city.  I can never decide which area is my favorite! They all have their own uniqueness about them and I find something to love in each one! This year, I really seemed to enjoy Soho and Little Italy the most.  The shops in Soho and the buildings will make you want to stay forever and I have to say Little Italy was the friendliest place I have been!  I got caught in a really bad rain storm in Little Italy the kind that blows your umbrella inside out and drenches you! Every restaurant I passed I was asked to come inside by the manager who was standing under the canopy and offered a drink... ON THE HOUSE!
Unfortunately, I never got
here for brunch! It is on
the top of the list for next
time!

Lipstick

The choices are endless!  There seems to be a never ending range of colors to choose from, not to mention the different types of lipsticks and brands!  Why do women love lipstick?  Lipstick draws attention to the lips and makes them stand out.  It is thought by some that highlighting the lips can make women more attractive to men, but many woman choose to wear it just simply because they like it.  I have always loved lipstick (and makeup) and do not feel fully dressed to go out without it.  I do not have a specific "one" lipstick that I have to have (at the moment), although I do tend to buy a lot of MAC and a lot of pink!

The choices can be overwhelming when going into a store to choose a lipstick, we are offered every color of the rainbow and then some and also we can choose the type of formula we want!  This can get hard!  LOL Here are some of the different types:

MOISTURIZING - This helps keep lips soft & smooth and often contains vitamin E and aloe.  It keeps the lips looking wet and shiny so you have to blot and reapply depending on how many times you eat or drink or how dry your lips are.

SATIN & SHEER - These are also moisturizing and nourishing and contain high oil ingredients.  They appear darker in the package than they do once applied.  Your lips will look very shiny & glossy but because of the oil ingredients you must reapply often.

MATTE - These are my favorite because of their staying power!  They are offered in many colorful & nice shades and are not too drying.  These are flat and not shiny on the lips but your lips look smoother with a matte lipstick.  You can also use a vitamin E product or aloe on top of the formula for a glossy appearance.

CREAM - This formula is not shiny like satin but has more of a smooth effect on the lips.  Cream lipsticks contain more wax in order to protect the lips, but this also has a drying effect on them.

PEARL & FROSTED - Frosted lipstick makes the lips sparkle and glisten.  Pearl and frosted lipstick both reflect light and gives the lips a very shiny effect.  Some of these formula's can feel heavy and the lips do need to be moisturized before using.

GLOSS - Gloss is very popular because it makes lips shine and enhances the dimension and depth of the lips.  Gloss can be used alone or on top of a traditional lipstick.

MAC Red
MAC Red lipliner
(natural hair day!)
LONG WEARING - These lipsticks have a formula that keeps lips looking good for 4-8 hours.  I have some friends that have said these don't work well for them, I have found that if you clean your lips really well before applying it works very well.
MAC Crème D'Nude
Neutral Lipliner
(sorry it's hard to see)
