About Me

My photo
Hi, my name is Amy I have lived in Louisiana my entire life and have been in the cosmetology business for over 20 years. I have always had a love for fashion, makeup, hair and traveling which in a way is what led to me starting this blog. I've also always had a love for writing and reading. I have a great husband and 2 children in college and 1 just starting high school. 1 son and 2 daughters. My dad, who I was very close to, passed away one year ago this month and I've sort of been at a loss for a year so my son has trying to get me to start this! He says nothing suits me better than writing about fashion and girl stuff all day! LOL So, here we go! My husband is John and we've been married 24 years, my oldest is my son, Clay, he is 20 and a senior at Louisiana Tech University studying Finance. My oldest daughter is Gracie Claire and she is starting Louisiana Tech this fall and plans to major in marketing also (they are following in their Dad's footsteps) and my youngest daughter is Camille, she will begin her freshman year of high school this fall. Summer Makeup

Baked Blush

Today, I thought I'd just put together some of the products I've tried this summer that have lasted while being out in this very hot Louisiana weather!  We have very hot and humid days, not only that but as unlady like as it is I sweat like it's hotter than blue blazes (which it is)! These are some of the products that I've worn so far this summer that have stayed on and not melted off my face while being outside. I really like all of these products so I tend to switch up what I wear, but these are all full coverage foundations since I have really bad melasma on my face in places and it's really hard to cover.  So far, for primers I've only found two that I really like, YSL is really good and hides any pores that are big enough to show and benefit PORE fessional has worked good for me too.  My pores tend to show on my chin the most and sometimes I notice them on my nose.  I'd love to know of any great ones that I might need to try.

Foundations and powders I really like are, Kat Von d lock it with Kat Von d setting powder.  I've heard people say this foundation is hard to use if you have dry skin, I have dry skin and love it but I think the trick to it is making sure you let your moisturizer and primer dry really good before you apply the foundation.  Next, is Marc Jacobs Re(marc)able foundation and I usually set this with the Laura Mercier setting powder or the Cover FX pressed mineral foundation with a powder brush.  I've also been using Estee Lauder Double Wear foundation with the Laura Mercier setting powder or the Cover FX pressed mineral foundation with a powder brush.  The Cover FX pressed mineral foundation is a buildable foundation that can be put on sheer (with a powder brush) or medium to full using the sponge it comes with, so it can be used alone.

Concealers (this one is harder for me because I'm covering really dark spots on my face, my chin is really bad!) under my eyes I always use It cosmetics bye bye under eye.  The formula is really thick but it brightens under my eyes and helps hide fine lines and signs of fatigue (sometimes! haha) I use Laura Mercier secret brightening powder to set the under eye concealer, I like it because it brightens and it doesn't settle into fine lines.  Kat Von d lock it concealer is great for covering any discoloring or anything! I've also been using Estee Lauder double wear water proof concealer a lot this summer and I've really liked it.  It cosmetics CC cream is really good and I wish I could use it as a foundation but it doesn't cover my melasma well enough, so sometimes I do use it as a concealer with the Marc Jacobs foundation.

The eyeshadow primer I have been using is Urban Decay original formula but next I want to try their anti aging formula.  My eyeshadow stays in place all day with no creasing or fading. For the last several months I have been using the smash box eyeshadow pallet with matte colors, the formula is very smooth and goes  on so easy. I've always been really picky about my eyeliner, some work for me and some don't!  Unfortunately, I'm not a big fan of liquid eyeliner (I do plan to try it again soon) but right now Makeup Forever's waterproof eye pencil is what I'm using and really liking. I started using Bobbi Brown eye opening mascara a few months ago and it's become a fast favorite of mine!

I have a drawer full of blush but the one I have found that I think is great is only around $10 and is made by Milani Cosmetics it's sold at CVS and Walgreen's, the colors are beautiful and very pigmented my favorite colors are Dolce Pink and Luminoso.

Hourglass makes the absolute best bronzer I've used it seems to have just the right amount of pigmentation and glow in it.

Becca highlighter has been a staple in my house since my 14 year old daughter discovered Jaclyn Hill and I have to admit I haven't found another one that can top it yet!

Let me know some of your favorite makeup brands and must haves for summer!
